Dr. Nattharikan Kaewkolthat and her team conducted academic outreach services under the Rajabhat University strategy, as part of the project “Preserving Local Wisdom, Enhancing Value for Sustainable Community Pride in Udon Thani Province,” at Municipal School 1 Sokkhun. The activities aimed to transfer the knowledge of sedge mat weaving, preserving the community's traditional knowledge, and encouraging the public, especially youth and local residents, to learn this valuable cultural and traditional craft.


The activities included planting and caring for sedge plants, harvesting sedge, drying sedge, dyeing sedge, and weaving sedge mats, with hands-on practice. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in promoting employment and economic growth (SDG 11) through creating employment opportunities from community cultural capital, sustainable urban and community development (SDG 12) through conserving and passing on local wisdom, and sustainable production and consumption (SDG 13) through the use of natural materials and creating value from local resources to maximize benefits, leading to long-term community pride and strength.
