On November 11-12, 2025, Dr. Nattharikan Kaewkolthat, head of the "Preserving Traditional Wisdom for Sustainable Community Development" project, together with a team of academics, practitioners in Kumphawapi District, and local partners including the Huai Koeng Subdistrict Municipality, Khok Soon Community, and Huai Koeng Herbal Enterprise, conducted in-depth academic service activities to systematically strengthen community capacity based on cultural capital and local knowledge.

Key activities included collecting and analyzing spatial data, extracting lessons learned from the traditional use of "reeds" in developing community products, and designing a knowledge management process from upstream to downstream, encompassing raw material sourcing, production, product quality development, product identity creation, and market linkages. This aimed to enhance economic value while conserving local resources and cultural traditions.

The "Preserving Traditional Wisdom for Sustainable Community Development" project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as an integrated systemic process that holistically links the development of people, communities, economic and social structures. It aims to create both learning outcomes and structural outcomes leading to long-term sustainability.
In the dimension of SDG 4: Quality Education, the project serves as a collaborative learning space between educational institutions, academics, and communities through the process of extracting lessons learned. Knowledge management and the development of knowledge from local wisdom into learning capital that can be transferred and further developed not only promotes lifelong learning for people in the community but also builds the capacity for analytical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation development from real-world contexts. This reflects the enhancement of the quality of practical education and its connection to life and careers.
In the dimension of SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, the project aims to strengthen the capacity of communities to develop occupations based on local resources and culture, especially the processing and development of products from "reed" to add value in terms of quality, identity, and market access. Designing cooperative production processes and management helps create income stability, reduce economic vulnerability, and open up employment opportunities at the household and community levels, which aligns with the concept of inclusive and equitable economic growth.
In the dimension of SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, the project applies academic knowledge and process-oriented innovation to community product management systems, from value chain analysis and development of production standards to product identity creation and the connection of market networks and collaborative partners. The development of these "knowledge structures" and "collaboration structures" serves as social and economic infrastructure that facilitates continuous development and adaptation of communities in the modern economic context.
In the dimension of SDG 17: Partnerships for Development, the project reflects a multilateral working model that connects educational institutions. Local government organizations, community groups, and community enterprises are systematically integrated. This collaboration is not limited to short-term activities but develops into a long-term working mechanism encompassing planning, monitoring, and scaling up to other areas and networks—a key element of sustainable development at the structural level.

In summary, the project implementation integrates SDGs in a process-oriented manner rather than focusing on specific outcomes. Specifically, human development through learning (SDG 4), building community economic security (SDG 8), applying innovation and strengthening management structures (SDG 9), and creating sustainable collaborative networks (SDG 17) are combined into a development system that aligns with the context and identity of each area. This enables communities to grow in a balanced and sustainable manner in the economic, social, and cultural dimensions over the long term.
