The “Peer Support”
Program Strengthens Cybersecurity for
the Elderly, Creating a Safe Digital
Society in the Community.
On May
24, 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anchana
Suksomjit, Deputy Dean for Research and
Development, Graduate School,
collaborated with Ban Mamungthong
Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital,
Lansapha District, Nakhon Si Thammarat
Province, to conduct a workshop on
“Peer Support for Cybersecurity
Prevention for the Elderly.” The
event saw enthusiastic participation
from local elderly individuals, based on
the concept of collaborative learning
through a network of elderly friends.
The aim was to build knowledge,
understanding, and skills in protecting
themselves from daily cyber
threats.
The activity focused
on educating participants on the safe
use of mobile phones and social media,
including identifying fraudulent
messages (SMS scams), preventing online
money scams, configuring security
settings in applications, recognizing
fake news, and being cautious about
disclosing personal information online.
The “peer support” model
allowed elderly individuals with greater
digital skills to mentor and share their
experiences with their peers.
Furthermore, practical exercises through
simulated scenarios enabled participants
to learn and apply the knowledge in
real-life situations, reducing the risk
of online fraud. This initiative
strengthens confidence in the
appropriate and safe use of digital
technology among older
adults.
These activities
align with the Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), aiming to empower older
adults with digital literacy and skills
for safe use, protecting them from
online scams and fake news. This
contributes to well-being in both mental
and social aspects, aligning with SDG 3
on health and well-being. Furthermore,
the activities support lifelong learning
under SDG 4 through a peer-to-peer
learning process, enabling older adults
to assist and share experiences. This
also helps reduce the knowledge and
technology access gap for older adults,
as per SDG 10, and promotes the creation
of strong, safe, and supportive
communities in society, as per SDG 11.
Finally, it builds resilience against
cyber threats, contributing to the
development of a safe and sustainable
society, as per SDG 16.
