The "Preserving Traditional Wisdom, Enhancing Value, and Fostering Sustainable Community Pride" Project in Udon Thani Province

From January 14-16, the Business Administration Department, Graduate School, led by Dr. Nattharikan Kaewkolthat, spearheaded community development based on cultural identity and capital through the "Preserving Traditional Wisdom, Enhancing Value, and Fostering Sustainable Community Pride" Project in Udon Thani Province. The project focused on conserving, revitalizing, and expanding the local wisdom of sedge mat weaving, a cultural heritage reflecting the lifestyle, beliefs, and wisdom of the local people for a long time. The project aimed to strengthen the community through collaborative learning between local experts, sedge mat weaving groups, and youth, systematically transferring knowledge from generation to generation.

Project activities included workshops on selecting natural materials, preparing sedge fibers, dyeing with natural materials, as well as weaving processes and designing patterns that blend contemporary and traditional identity.

The project's implementation aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in an integrated manner. Conserving sedge mat weaving wisdom preserves cultural heritage and social diversity while creating economic opportunities for households in the community. The learning process and vocational skills development empower people to be self-reliant and reduce income vulnerability. At the same time, the use of natural materials and the promotion of responsible production reflect the wise and environmentally friendly use of resources.
