"Summary of key points from the
Equitable Education Fund's Facebook
page: 'Fun Classroom, Fun
Language' changes the perspective of
English language learning, making it
more accessible. Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Sasiporn Pongpleinpit, Deputy Dean for
Academic Affairs, Graduate School, led a
team of first-year student volunteers
from the Faculty of Education, English
Language Program, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat
University, to provide support to
children affected by the floods in
Ayutthaya Province.
The 20-person
student team organized a 'Fun
Classroom, Fun Language' workshop
with the theme 'A Little Big Help A
Big Smile' to provide encouragement
to students in grades 1-6 at Wat
Prachakorn Rangsarit School in Bang Bal
District, Ayutthaya Province. This
followed the major floods at the end of
2025, which forced the school to close
for over a month. In addition to their
heartfelt support, they brought school
supplies, snacks, milk, and the message
they wanted to convey to the children:
'Learning English is fun!'"
And everyone can learn from the stories
around them… every
day.
'P'Fahsai'
Nisaanart Kaewhin, the spokesperson for
the volunteer team, explained the
activity: “We wanted to visit and
encourage the children and thought we
should do something beneficial. As
student teachers, we came up with the
idea of designing English language
activities in the form of games with
various stations for the children to
have fun and learn at the same time,
making our visit more meaningful to the
children.” For this activity, the
senior teachers agreed to break away
from traditional English language
learning methods, focusing only on the
‘essential elements’ of
language learning. The ultimate goal is
for the children to have smiles and
laughter, changing their perspective and
inspiring them to want to learn English
on their own.
Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Sasiporn Pongpleinpit, Deputy Dean for
Academic Affairs, Graduate School, or
Professor Apple, who is a teacher to the
student teachers, added that the desire
to learn and practice on their own is
the most important skill in language
learning. Combined with the fact that
the brains of children are most
receptive to language development during
the ages of 0-7 and 8-12, if teachers
guide them correctly, effective learning
can occur in every child. The concept of
activity-based language learning was
further elaborated as ‘creating a
classroom where children actively
participate,’ transforming anxiety
and fear of English into fun and
engaging learning experiences.
Conversely, it’s not just a
passive learning process; engaging
activities in diverse environments also
allows student teachers to gain
experience and hone their
skills.
“Although this was
a short visit, it has given us hope that
we can ‘sow the seeds of a love
and interest in learning English,’
helping children understand that English
doesn’t have to be stressful to
learn and can be enjoyable. If children
go home and speak or sing English songs,
their parents will see that English is
accessible, and it might even lead to
families supporting and learning
together.”
