Research Project on Developing Online
Learning Materials to Promote Digital
Citizenship Skills Among the
Elderly
On January 29, 2026,
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anchana Suksomjit,
Deputy Dean for Research and
Development, led a team of lecturers and
staff to disseminate learning materials
to the elderly to enhance their
understanding of technological
challenges and solutions. This project,
funded by the National Research Council
of Thailand (NRCT), focuses on
developing online learning materials to
promote digital citizenship skills and
cybersecurity awareness among the
elderly. The event took place at the
Third Age University, Chiang
Rai.
This research project
aligns clearly with several dimensions
of the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs), particularly SDG 4, Quality
Education, which emphasizes promoting
lifelong learning equitably and
inclusively for all ages. The project
supports access to learning for the
elderly through online materials
designed to suit their physical, social,
and learning experiences. It helps
reduce barriers to accessing knowledge
and creates opportunities for continuous
digital skill development. This forms a
crucial foundation for a good quality of
life in the digital
age.
Furthermore, the project
aligns with SDG 10, Reduced
Inequalities, by aiming to bridge the
digital divide between generations
through empowering older adults with the
capacity to use information and
communication technology (ICT). This
ensures equal access to information,
public services, and social activities
online. Developing digital citizenship
skills empowers older adults to
participate with dignity in the digital
world and reduces the risk of
technological
exploitation.
In the
dimension of social sustainability, the
project connects with SDG 11,
Sustainable Cities and Communities, and
SDG 16, Peace, Justice and Strong
Institutions, by promoting ethical,
responsible, and respectful use of
digital media. Developing cybersecurity
skills, media literacy, and critical
information use fosters quality digital
citizens, essential components of a
strong, transparent, and peaceful
society.
This research
project not only addresses the need to
empower older adults in the digital
world but also serves as a vital
mechanism for driving Sustainable
Development Goals in the dimensions of
education, equity, and social
empowerment. This will lead to the
creation of a comprehensive and
sustainable digital learning system and
community in the long
term.
